Electric Crossfeed Drive for a South Bend 9C Lathe

This is an electric crossfeed drive for the SB9C lathe. It uses an electric AC barbeque motor to provide the drive. This drives an electromagnetic 24vdc clutch (the black unit) which is then attached to the back of the crossfeed lead screw with a brass collar. The brass collar has internal LH acme thread that engages the lead screw. A spiral zero backlash coupling allows for minor alignment errors. The motor is allowed to run freely when in use and the clutch is engaged as needed. Crossfeed speed is quite fine at about 0.005" per second.

The unit is attached by two bolts to existing holes on the back of the carriage provided for the SB taper attachment.
