This is a very handy attachment for any lathe. It is a cheap import drill press modified to use on the cross slide of a lathe. The spindle head of the drill press is cut off to slightly more than exact height dimension required and filed or milled to fit. It is then centered and aligned to the axis of the lathe. It is mounted on a plate that is fastened to the cross slide. The height and axial alignment should be as accurate as possible and may be adjusted with shims as required when bolted to the attaching plate. ![]() This is the finished unit ![]() The drill press spindle is bolted to a block (not shown) that fits inside the head. See detail below: ![]() This has proven to be a very useful attachment and has easily paid for itself. It is very handy when drilling indexed holes as below. ![]() It also may be used as a light duty tool post grinder. Here it is making a counter bore from a drill bit. ![]() |
